Domenico Paone, in 1878, shortly after the union of the Kingdom of Italy, built an artisan workshop for the production of bread and pasta and a steam mill in Formia (Italy), together with a fleet of motorsailers for the supply of wheat from the ports of southern Italy. In 1928 he built a square at his own expense to defend the coast, donating it to the city of Formia. After two years, he was made a Knight of Labor. Four more generations of master pasta makers have carried on the tradition of premium pasta making. Today, on the world scene, the Paone pasta factory is one of the oldest and most qualified Italian pasta company. The superior quality Paone pasta line is dedicated to him and to white art and, more generally, to the art told by the unique monuments and wonderful cities of our country.

The Art On The Packaging:
The Mouth of Truth, Rome
The Mouth of Truth is a marble sculpture, which has stood against the wall in the portico of the church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin in Rome since 1632. The sculpture dates back to around 1 AD; it measures 1.75 metres in diameter and weighs a huge 1300 kg. In Ancient Rome, the sculpture may have served as a drain cover for the city’s main sewer, the Cloaca Maxima, which the king, Lucius Tarquinius Superbus, commissioned to drain waste and rainwater away from the area around the forum. At this time in history, drain covers often depicted river deities swallowing the water. Similarly, the Mouth of Truth is sculpted into the shape of a bearded face; the eyes, nose and mouth provide holes through which the water would have drained into the sewer.
It has been known as the “Mouth of Truth” since 1485 – legend has it that “in ancient times, the Stone of Truth had the power to tell when a woman had been unfaithful to her husband”.
